The question I pose to you today is….
Any guesses on why I was here and what I was doing?
We went on vacation with my sister, her husband, and her 3 month old son. When I told her that I was planning on writing about the trip, her first response was well writing about me will take up at least one post. I am pretty sure that meant I was supposed to write a post about her. So here it goes.
This one is for you baby sis.
I love traveling with my sister and her husband for various reasons:
They are incredibly hip. As in almost hipster hip. They dress so hipster cool all the time. It is great being seen out with them. Even if we just run to the store they look like they stepped out of an urban outfitter catalog. Therefor, I am cooler by association. Or I look lame next to them not quite sure yet.
In a family of tradition conservatives they are the only ones I can actually have discussions with that don’t end in you need to watch Fox News. Not having anyone to talk to in your family about life is hard. It wears on you emotionally. So simply being able to talk is more of a blessing than I could imagine.
She has the super human ability to only take perfect pictures. Since we are southern, and every good southern family puts on jeans and white t-shirts to take family beach pics, that is what we did. I consider myself a fairly attractive lady. Even a student today told me in the lunch line that I was really pretty for a teacher. But, I cannot photograph to save my live. My sister, however, should have been a model. Every photograph is flawless. Even if you spook her at the moment you take the picture. My dad told me that when we were kids and getting our yearly church family portrait when my sister went up to take her photo, I said “I hate her. She always takes good pictures.”
Growing up we were not those sisters that did everything together. But every year we grow closer and closer. And now that we are both moms with kids close in age I have more fun with her than I ever did growing up.
I love you baby sister.
Upon arrival in Alabama one of the first things I did was look up family fun activities. Sure, I could have looked them up ahead of time, but I live on the edge. There were quiet a few amazing things to do. I even found a list of 97 family activities to do.
Item number 32: walmart- Super great option so much fun!
Item number 34: Dollar Store- Could it get any better than stuff for a dollar
Item number 37: Family Dollar Store- What! Family stuff for a dollar.
Item number 25: Old Time Pottery- Because New Time pottery is lame. This store was actually awesome. If you ever come across one stop everything and go in immediately.
Item number 1: The zoo- It was great they let you feed the animals and a bunch of animals just wandered the zoo.
Item Number 15: Pirate Putt Putt – Dark caves, giant waterfalls, tiny balls a toddler can throw, it doesn’t get any better.
New Year’s Eve we took our daughter for her first hike. She hiked like a champ. I myself was drenched in sweat and breathing heavy and she was just smiling away. Could have been because the last 1/2 mile a carried her. Just Maybe. There is a beautiful spot about 2 hours north with some little waterfalls.
In desperate need of some Christmas cheer. We made the epic journey to a Christmas light display. Ok so it was only an hour, but it felt like we were on a journey for Christmas Treasure. Traveling through the darkness waiting for the light to appear. As a parent it is easy to tell when the lights are near. Because your child will start to go woah woah woah! Which is super awesome FYI. We got a new camera this Christmas and so I will share some of the pics. We are still learning to use it, so I promise better pics as the year progresses.
There were two trees with lights that were moving to make it look as though the trees were crying.
We rode a train under a tunnel of lights !
There was a beautiful Carousel just waiting to be ridden.
And of Course a rainbow which led the way to the Christmas Treasure
